Security operations launched in Sulmona and Valle Peligna amid rising crime

Security concerns have intensified in the Valle Peligna region of Italy following a series of criminal incidents. Representative Nardella expressed solidarity with former Sulmona Mayor Giuseppe Ranalli and other families targeted by local theft, citing an increase in crime, drug use, and violence in the area. Nardella criticized current national policies, suggesting that despite higher incarceration rates, crime rates—particularly home burglaries—continue to rise.

In response to security needs, the Carabinieri conducted extraordinary territory controls in Sulmona, Civitella Roveto, and the Valle Peligna. The operations, which included an anti-drug unit from the Chieti K9 Nucleus, involved checking 126 individuals and inspecting public businesses. During the patrols, officers seized hashish from one individual and verified the status of persons subject to judicial restrictions or house arrest.
