Security Present Operation expands to five Rio de Janeiro municipalities

The state of Rio de Janeiro’s police‑military‑run Operação Segurança Presente is adding five new bases this July. The first unit opened in Tanguá on 7 July, followed by openings scheduled for Resende (13 July), Volta Redonda (16 July), Paty do Alferes (21 July) and Mangaratiba (23 July).

The expansion brings proximity‑oriented policing together with social‑service assistance. Each base includes police officers trained for community‑focused patrols and social workers who receive and refer vulnerable residents to the municipal assistance network. The units are equipped with patrol cars, motorcycles and vans. Of the 508 newly‑graduated police recruits, 47 have been assigned to the new locations, while experienced officers from existing battalions are also transferred to support the initiative. Personnel are expected to attend local community‑safety council meetings and maintain direct contact with neighborhood leaders to address local demands more quickly.
