Security professionals protest in Funchal for better pay
Approximately 50 members of the Public Security Police (PSP) and the National Republican Guard (GNR) held a demonstration in Funchal on Tuesday. The protest is part of a national movement demanding higher salaries and improved career progression.
Miguel Neto, vice-president of the Association of Police Professionals (ASPP/PSP), stated that the protest stems from a government agreement signed two and a half years ago. While the agreement included an increase in risk subsidies, Neto noted that the promised revisions to salary tables and evaluation regulations have not been fulfilled.
The demonstration, held in the Praça do Município, was organized by the ASPP/PSP and the Association of Guard Professionals (APG/GNR), with participation from the Prison Guard Corps. Organizers emphasized that the goal of these decentralized actions is to raise awareness among local authorities, merchants, and the general public regarding the lack of career attractiveness within the security forces.
