Secwépemc sculpture unveiled at Mara Provincial Park in British Columbia

The Secwépemc Landmarks Project, begun in 2018, added its latest sculpture to Mara Provincial Park on Saturday, July 11. The unveiling, scheduled from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m., marked the installation of one of 16 sculptures that commemorate oral histories and place names across the region.

The day‑long event includes two guided boat trips to view historic pictographs on the lake, a cultural workshop, and a community lunch. Registration is required for the boat trips, which operate from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. Attendees are asked to bring their own chairs, umbrellas, towels and walking shoes. The ceremony is open to the public, with details subject to change because of weather or wildfire conditions.
