Sedapal appoints Fernando Laca to lead restructuring in Lima
The Peruvian government has appointed Fernando Laca Barrera as the new chairman of the board for Sedapal, the water and sanitation utility serving Lima and Callao. This appointment is part of a formal restructuring process initiated by the Ministry of Housing, Construction and Sanitation to improve management efficiency and service quality.
Minister Mauricio Arnillas stated that the reform aims to ensure safe, continuous, and high-quality water services for residents. He explicitly ruled out the privatization of the utility, emphasizing that water remains a public state resource.
Laca Barrera is a civil engineer with extensive experience in public management and the water sector, having previously held roles at OTASS, Sunass, and as a senior specialist for the World Bank.
Concurrently, Sedapal is conducting maintenance on its storage systems, resulting in scheduled water service interruptions across various districts in Lima. To mitigate the impact of these cuts, the utility is deploying water tankers to the most affected areas and advises residents to manage their supplies efficiently.
