Sedat Gümüş funds Quran course in Oltu using academic award

Professor Sedat Gümüş, an academic based at The Education University of Hong Kong, has used his Friedrich Wilhelm Bessel Research Award prize money from Germany's Humboldt Foundation to fund an educational facility in his hometown of Oltu, Erzurum.

The facility, named the Türkan Gümüş 4-6 Age Quran Course in memory of his late mother, was built beneath the Karabekir Mosque. The center is designed to provide full-day education for children aged 4 to 6, focusing on religious instruction and moral values.

A formal opening ceremony was attended by local officials, including Oltu District Governor Mustafa Çelik and Mayor Adem Çelebi. The course currently serves 37 students across three classrooms.
