Sedema plants 10,000 specimens to restore Teuhtli volcano area

The Mexico City Ministry of the Environment (Sedema) conducted an ecological restoration initiative in the Los Encinos area, located on the slopes of the Teuhtli volcano in the Xochimilco borough. The project involved planting 10,000 specimens—comprising 6,000 cosmos and 4,000 dahlias—across five hectares to strengthen vegetation cover and support soil conservation.

Approximately 300 participants, including 250 brigadiers and 50 producers from the Altépetl Bienestar Program, collaborated on the planting efforts. This initiative is part of broader efforts by the Mexico City government to protect strategic conservation soils and restore ecosystems within the capital.

In a related context, Mexico City officials noted recent reforestation successes, including the planting of 35,000 trees across various boroughs such as Tláhuac, Tlalpan, and Milpa Alta, aimed at recovering green spaces and combating illegal logging in the southern Water Forest.
