Sedema to support municipalities with animal sterilization and adoption supplies
The Secretariat of the Environment (Sedema) has announced a support program for the 212 municipalities in the state to strengthen animal welfare initiatives. The strategy includes providing specialized supplies for surgical sterilization campaigns and promoting responsible adoption programs.
Luz Mariela Zaleta Mendoza, head of Sedema, stated that the agency will provide technical guidance to help local governments establish Animal Welfare areas and Animal Health Centers. The initiative involves distributing sterilization kits and medical instruments, ensuring all procedures are performed by qualified veterinarians.
Additionally, Sedema is working to coordinate networks with civil associations and shelters. The agency also highlighted a tripartite collaboration agreement with the State Attorney General's Office (FGE) and the Environmental Prosecutor's Office (PMA) to address animal cruelty and mistreatment cases.
