Sedil Dominova historical building seized in Sorrento

The Sedil Dominova, a historic building in Sorrento, has been placed under preventive seizure by the Naples Reexamination Court. The decision follows an appeal by the Torre Annunziata Prosecutor's Office regarding the alleged illegal occupation of public property.

The investigation centers on the Società Operaia di Mutuo Soccorso, which has occupied the structure since its loan-for-use contract expired in December 2021. Authorities are investigating potential crimes related to the invasion of public lands or buildings, amid ongoing disputes between municipal officials and commissioner management regarding the allocation of the site.

Francesco Gargiulo, president of the Società Operaia di Mutuo Soccorso, expressed deep distress over the closure, noting the organization has represented the city's history for 150 years. He suggested the seizure might be a personal attack resulting from his previous efforts to combat corruption and illegality.
