Sedil Dominova in Sorrento enters FAI 'Luogo del Cuore' heritage contest

The historic Sedil Dominova building in Sorrento has launched its official candidacy for the “Luogo del Cuore FAI” program, a national biennial campaign run by the Fondo per l'Ambiente Italiano (FAI) in partnership with Intesa Sanpaolo. The initiative invites citizens to vote for sites of cultural and artistic value, with a minimum of 4,000 votes required for this year’s selection.

Dating from the 14th century, the Sedil Dominova is the best‑preserved medieval “sedile” in southern Italy, retaining original 13th‑century pillars, a 15th‑century Renaissance cornice, 18th‑century maiolica tiles, and elaborate 18th‑century frescoes that now show signs of deterioration despite a 2019 restoration. The campaign aims to secure funds for further conservation of the frescoes and the building’s unique architectural features.

If successful, the site would join a list of protected locations receiving financial support for maintenance and public awareness, helping to safeguard an irreplaceable piece of Italy’s cultural heritage.
