SEDUMA reforests damaged forests in Tamaulipas

The Secretariat of Urban Development and Environment (SEDUMA) has launched a reforestation initiative in the Tamaulipas municipalities of Jaumave and Miquihuana to restore forests damaged by fires and pests.

In the Ejido 20 de Abril, located within the El Cielo Biosphere Reserve in Jaumave, 5,000 Pinus pseudostrobus specimens are being planted to recover areas affected by fires from approximately four years ago and recent pest outbreaks. This effort involves local volunteers who provide territorial knowledge.

Simultaneously, in the Ejido La Marcela in Miquihuana, 3,900 pine trees of various species are being planted in areas where pests have killed adult trees. Local residents are participating through concurrent funds and SEDUMA’s temporary employment program. Participants received training on proper planting techniques, including the use of hydrogel to maintain root moisture.
