Seebrückenschwimmen concludes inaugural season in Lübecker Bucht

The inaugural season of the Seebrückenschwimmen event in the Lübecker Bucht concluded with its fourth and final stage on August 8. The final leg saw approximately 180 participants swim a three-kilometer route from the Haffkrug pier to the new pier in Scharbeutz under favorable summer weather and calm sea conditions.

Sebastian Barsch secured first place in the final stage, completing his overall victory for the 2026 season. The event series, themed ‘From Bridge to Bridge,’ consisted of four stages spanning from Rettin to Scharbeutz.

Organizers implemented new safety protocols for the finale following a difficult third stage between Sierksdorf and Haffkrug, which had to be terminated early due to unexpected weather and water conditions that caused hypothermia in several participants. New regulations include a minimum age of 14, a mandatory cancellation if water temperatures fall below 14 degrees Celsius, and a requirement for wetsuits if temperatures are between 14 and 16 degrees Celsius.
