Seema Poonia wins Asian Games discus gold for India

Seema Poonia, the veteran Indian discus thrower, secured the gold medal at the Asian Games, adding a major triumph to her long career. Born on 27 July 1983 in Haryana, she has previously earned medals at the Commonwealth Games, including silver in 2006 and bronze in 2010, and placed 12th in the finals of the 2012 London Olympics.

Poonia’s career includes early success with a gold at the 2000 World Junior Championships, later stripped after a positive test for a banned substance. She rebounded with a bronze at the 2002 World Juniors and continued to win medals at regional events. Doping controversies resurfaced before the 2006 Asian Games, leading her to withdraw, but she returned to form in later years, culminating in the Asian Games gold.
