Seen Live app launches to rate and archive DJ sets
Jordan Taylor, head of the club culture platform Tough Luck, has launched Seen Live, a new mobile application designed to serve as a personal archive for nightlife experiences. Described by some as “Letterboxd for clubbing,” the app allows users to log events, search for club nights, and create a visual archive of photos and videos from shows they have attended.
Beyond documentation, the platform enables users to rate DJ sets, festivals, and live performances, allowing others to discover new artists through community reviews. Taylor stated the goal was to create a central place to “look back on everything” and help users find new music from people who were “actually in the room.”
The launch has met with some criticism regarding the nature of reviewing live performances. Critics argue that DJ sets are transient and contextual, making them difficult to judge compared to fixed works like films or albums. There are also concerns that a public scoring system could exacerbate existing issues of online abuse within the music scene.
