Budapest transport: Flórián tér junction reopens and MÁV digital sales rise

Budapest is seeing significant developments in both transport infrastructure and digital service adoption. The BKK has announced that the northern junction at Flórián tér, connecting Szentendrei út and Árpád Bridge, is scheduled to reopen to road traffic at dawn on Sunday, August 30. This marks the completion of the major reconstruction of the two bridges, which had been undergoing repairs since March 2025 to address structural damage caused by moisture and pollution. The project, costing 3.27 billion HUF, was completed within budget, saving over 2 billion HUF through competitive bidding.

In the rail sector, MÁV CEO Zsolt Hegyi reported a strong trend toward digitalization. In the first seven months of the year, more than 780,000 international passengers purchased tickets, with 64.8 percent opting for digital channels such as the MÁV website or mobile applications. This is an increase from 60.7 percent in the previous year. Vienna remains the most popular international destination for travelers from Budapest, followed by Bratislava and Munich.
