Sefwi Datano pit collapse kills two miners in Ghana

Two miners have died following the collapse of a galamsey pit in Sefwi Datano, located in the Bodi District of Ghana’s Western North Region. The deceased have been identified as Kwaku Charles and Nana Dibi, both estimated to be in their early thirties.

The victims were reportedly engaged in regular gold mining activities when the ground gave way. A third miner who was working alongside them remains unaccounted for.

During the rescue operation, which involved local community members and Bodi police, an excavator was used to clear the collapsed earth. Tragically, the machine accidentally severed the head of one of the victims during the attempt to retrieve the bodies. The remains were subsequently moved to the Juaboso Government Hospital mortuary for preservation. Investigations into the circumstances of the collapse are ongoing.
