Sega announces Sonic Frontiers surpasses 5 million units sold

Sega has announced that its action-adventure game, ‘Sonic Frontiers’, has surpassed 5 million units in cumulative worldwide sales. This milestone represents the highest sales figure for a 3D Sonic title in the series.

The achievement follows several strategic initiatives, including large-scale free updates, the addition of new playable characters like Amy, Knuckles, and Tails, and regular digital sales. The game, which features an open-zone exploration style set in the Starfall Islands, has received multiple accolades, such as the ‘Japan Game Awards 2023 Excellence Award’.

In conjunction with this announcement, Sega is holding a promotional sale on platforms including PlayStation Store, Nintendo eShop, and Steam, offering various Sonic titles at discounts of up to 75%. Additionally, a ‘Sonic Frontiers Super Deluxe’ version optimized for Nintendo Switch 2 is currently available digitally, with a physical release scheduled for September 17, 2026.
