SEGA expands Angry Birds franchise with Sonic Rumble launch and Indian licensing partnership

SEGA, which acquired Rovio Entertainment in 2023, released the free‑to‑play mobile game Sonic Rumble, bringing the Sonic brand to iOS, Android, PC and Steam. The development team highlighted the technical challenge of delivering smooth performance across a wide range of devices, from low‑end smartphones to high‑end PCs, while supporting live‑service content at scale.

In parallel, SEGA appointed Black White Orange as the official licensing agent for the Angry Birds franchise in India. The partnership will develop officially licensed merchandise across categories such as apparel, accessories, stationery, home goods and food‑and‑beverage, aiming to tap the country’s large, digitally engaged youth market. Angry Birds, which has exceeded 5 billion game downloads and generated over $500 million in global box‑office revenue, is set to release its third film in early 2027, further driving brand growth in the region.
