SEGA to use AI for corporate efficiency, not game creativity

SEGA has clarified its stance on generative artificial intelligence, stating that the company will not entrust the creative aspects of its video games to AI. Instead, the technology will be used to improve efficiency within corporate and publishing departments and to generate business ideas.

Tsuyoshi Saito, SEGA's Senior Executive Officer and Deputy Business Director, noted that the company is proceeding with extreme caution regarding AI application in the development process. This follows previous discussions surrounding 'Crazy Taxi: World Tour', where the use of AI for background elements caused confusion. SEGA clarified that in that instance, AI was used only as a reference for developers rather than to generate final game assets.

To manage this technology, SEGA established a generative AI committee led by Technical Director and Deputy R&D Director Yokoshima Taishi. An internal working group is also responsible for developing in-house AI tools, while the company collaborates with its North American and European PR departments to address inquiries from distribution platforms regarding AI usage.
