SEGA's Golden Axe animated series to premiere on Paramount+

The SEGA video game franchise Golden Axe is being adapted into an animated action-comedy series for Paramount+. Scheduled to premiere on September 16, 2026, the series will release all 10 episodes simultaneously.

Created by Mike McMahan and Joe Chandler, with animation by Titmouse, the show follows the classic trio of Ax Battler, Tyris Flare, and Gilius Thunderhead. The plot centers on the return of the villain Death Adder, who threatens the kingdom of Yuria. While the series maintains the core mythology of the original 1989 arcade game, it introduces new elements, including the character Hampton Squib and a storyline where the main heroes are separated during their quest for the legendary Emerald Sword and the Golden Axe.

The voice cast includes Matthew Rhys, Liam McIntyre, Lisa Gilroy, Danny Pudi, and Carl Tart.
