Segni Barocchi Festival presents plays on Caravaggio and Bernini

The Segni Barocchi Festival in Foligno continues with two theatrical productions focusing on historical artistic figures.

On September 2, the Teatro San Carlo will host “Il Sole Nero – Michelangelo Merisi da Caravaggio.” Directed by Giacomo Andrico, the play features Danny Bignotti as Caravaggio. The performance explores the painter’s visionary approach to light and matter, reflecting on the scientific revolution of the Galilean era and the artist's ability to find sanctity in the mundane.

On September 3, the Auditorium San Domenico will present “Gran Teatro Bernini,” directed by Francesco D’Alfonso. Starring Federico Gatti as Gian Lorenzo Bernini, the production examines the artist’s personal crisis and his resilience following a conflict with Pope Innocent X Pamphili regarding construction issues at St. Peter's Basilica. The play is based on historical sources vetted by art historian Antonio Soldi.
