Segorbe-Castellón Diocese fined for abandoning Nules hermitage

The Segorbe-Castellón Diocese has received its first economic sanction for the abandonment of the Calvari ermita in Nules. The fine, which the local council has not specified but is estimated to be approximately 10% of the projected 200,000 euro renovation cost, follows a report from the Conselleria de Cultura to the Síndic de Greuges.

Although the diocese submitted an updated execution project in late July, the submission was delayed beyond the required deadlines. The building, which has been protected as a Bien de Relevancia Local since 2007, is currently in a state of ruin. Its roof collapsed in 2020 due to a lack of maintenance, and no interventions have been made to halt its degradation since that time.
