Segovia implements sustainable asphalt and biomass energy projects

The regional government of Castilla y León has launched two major sustainability initiatives in Segovia focused on infrastructure and energy.

On the A-601 highway, a one-kilometer experimental section is being constructed using 30% recycled asphalt. This pilot project, located between Carbonero el Mayor and Navalmanzano, utilizes milled material from the existing road combined with a rejuvenating additive. The research and development initiative aims to evaluate the durability and workability of recycled mixtures compared to conventional asphalt.

Simultaneously, a €32 million biomass heating network project is advancing in Segovia. The regional government, through Somacyl, has tendered contracts for the first 15 kilometers of piping (€7.7 million) and a thermal generation plant (€18.3 million). Once completed, the network will utilize sustainable forest biomass to provide heating and hot water to approximately 7,000 homes and 40 commercial buildings, reducing reliance on fossil fuels.
