Segovia initiatives promote rural traditions and healthy eating for children
Various educational initiatives in the Segovia region of Spain are focusing on rural traditions and healthy living for children.
Participants in the Conciliamos program, organized by the Junta de Castilla y León, recently visited a photographic and audiovisual exhibition titled ‘Faenas de la Cosecha’ at the Casa de la Cultura. The exhibit, created by photographer Emilio Calvo García, documents the traditional cycle of bread making, from wheat sowing to flour production. The project features historical agricultural methods and includes documentation of local residents, such as 97-year-old Nicolás, who continues to practice traditional farming.
Additionally, the Diputación de Segovia launched the ‘Chiquichef’ initiative through its Alimentos de Segovia brand. This program held workshops in Gomezserracín, Trescasas, Fuentidueña, and Marazuela to teach approximately one hundred children about healthy eating and local products. Led by nutrition and psychology professionals, the workshops used sensory games and cooking exercises to promote nutritional awareness and autonomy in the kitchen.
