Segovia inmates begin Camino de Santiago pilgrimage

Six inmates from the Segovia Penitentiary Center have begun a week-long pilgrimage along the French Way of the Camino de Santiago. As part of the ‘Caminos de Libertad’ project, the group will walk approximately 166 kilometers from O Cebreiro to the Santiago de Compostela Cathedral.

Promoted by the Segovia Penitentiary Pastoral and the Spanish Episcopal Conference, the initiative aims to provide incarcerated individuals with an experience centered on coexistence, personal effort, and reflection. The program combines walking with cultural visits to encourage personal change and preparation for new stages in life.

Supported by various institutions, including Segovia Tourism, which provided branded t-shirts for the participants, the group will pass through Triacastela, Sarria, Portomarín, Palas de Rei, and Arzúa. Upon reaching Monte de Gozo, the Segovian participants will join inmates from other penitentiary centers to complete the final stretch to the Galician capital.
