Segovia Provincial Council completes riverbank restoration

The Segovia Provincial Council has completed environmental recovery works along 4.2 kilometers of the Riaza and Duratón riverbanks. Executed by the public company Tragsa with a budget of 139,817 euros, the project aims to improve the ecological state of these natural spaces and integrate them into the province's sustainable tourism offerings.

In the Riaza River, interventions covered approximately 1,800 meters and included waste removal, the elimination of dead vegetation, and the planting of various riparian species such as willows, ash, hazel, and elderberry.

In the Duratón River, works spanned 2,400 meters and utilized bioengineering techniques to stabilize banks eroded by water. These efforts are part of the ‘Hoces de Segovia’ Sustainable Tourism Plan, which seeks to balance environmental conservation with tourism. The broader plan involves a total investment of 2.86 million euros, funded by the European Next Generation EU program.
