Segovia sees rise in Spanish voters residing abroad

The number of Spanish residents living abroad registered for electoral purposes in the province of Segovia has increased by 19.04 percent between 2021 and 2026. According to the Census of Spaniards Residing Abroad (PERE), the figure rose from 4,165 to 4,958 people during this period.

This continuous growth coincides with the implementation of Law 20/2022, also known as the Democratic Memory Law, which allowed certain descendants of Spaniards to acquire Spanish nationality. While the law has had a significant impact abroad—with over 571,000 applications approved at Spanish consulates as of May 2026—the data for Segovia does not specify how many of the new registrations are directly linked to this law.

The increase is not limited to the Americas; Europe accounted for 462 of the 793 new registrations in Segovia, representing a 21.49 percent increase in that region.
