Segovia tuberculosis cases result in one death and one hospitalization

Two cases of tuberculosis have been confirmed among workers at a livestock exploitation in the province of Segovia, Spain. According to the Junta de Castilla y León, one of the affected individuals has died due to clinical complications, while the second person remains hospitalized for treatment.

The Directorate General of Public Health has activated epidemiological surveillance protocols to investigate contacts, including cohabitants and close associates in the workplace. Testing is currently being conducted on 88 people. While the two cases occurred at the same company during the same period, health authorities stated it is not considered an outbreak as the individuals were not related to one another.

Authorities have noted that a workplace origin for the infection is not suspected. One of the deceased was identified as a Senegalese national who had arrived in Valladolid approximately one month before his death. Tuberculosis is a mandatory reportable disease in Spain, and surveillance aims to ensure early detection and preventive treatment for contacts.
