Segun Showunmi reflects on MKO Abiola and democratic struggle

Segun Showunmi, a Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chieftain in Ogun State and convener of The Alternative Movement, has stated that the death of businessman and politician Moshood Kashimawo Olawale (MKO) Abiola left a lasting emotional impact on him.

Reflecting on the struggle to actualize the June 12, 1993, presidential election mandate, Showunmi noted that these experiences shaped his political convictions and commitment to Nigerian unity. He emphasized that he would not allow his contributions to the pro-democracy movement to be misrepresented.

Showunmi also addressed recent political tensions, warning against the release of unverified election results that could lead to national instability or chaos. He clarified that his recent warnings were intended to prevent recklessness and legal conflicts rather than to serve specific ethnic interests.
