SEIB celebrates 40 years of medical technology in Greece
The Association of Medical and Biotechnological Enterprises (SEIB) celebrated its 40th anniversary with a commemorative event in Athens on October 23, 2026. The gathering included over 200 attendees, including government officials, health institutional representatives, patient associations, and members of the scientific community.
SEIB Chairman Dimitris Nikas reviewed the organization's evolution from its founding in 1986 as PANSPESIM with 30 companies, through its transition to SEP Sciences and Health in 2002, to its current identity established in 2013. Today, SEIB comprises 186 member companies, representing approximately two-thirds of the Greek medtech market.
The event highlighted the industry's shift from mere medical equipment supply to providing integrated technological solutions and participating in health policy dialogue. Nikas noted a challenge facing the sector: while Europe remains a global leader in medical technology patents, the region struggles to translate these innovations into clinical practice.
