Seismic activity reported in Costa Rica and Panama

Seismic activity has been noted in Costa Rica and Panama. In Costa Rica, experts from the National Seismological Network (RSN) report that approximately 150 seismic faults traverse the country, with more than 50% located in the highly populated Central Valley. Some faults, such as Agua Caliente in Cartago and Río Sucio in Vásquez de Coronado, have the potential to generate events up to a magnitude of 5.2. Experts emphasize the need for continued preparation of homes and workplaces despite advancements in construction planning.

In Panama, 13 earthquakes were recorded over a 48-hour period. The most significant tremor reached a magnitude of 4.3 near Boquete, Chiriquí, with an epicenter located 13 kilometers south of the area. Other movements, including a 3.3 magnitude quake near the Panama-Costa Rica border, were also reported. The Institute of Geosciences (IGC) is monitoring the situation in western Chiriquí, though no material damage or emergency situations have been declared.
