A magnitude 3.4 earthquake struck the Vrancea seismic zone in Romania on Monday morning, August 31, 2026, at 07:12 local time. According to the National Institute for Earth Physics (INCDFP), the tremor occurred at a depth of 98 kilometers.

The epicenter was located near several cities, including 30 kilometers south of Focșani and 67 kilometers south of Buzău. No material damage or casualties were reported following the event.

This tremor is part of a period of increased seismic activity in the region. Since the beginning of August 2026, Romania has recorded eight earthquakes with magnitudes ranging between 3 and 4.5. Additionally, later in the day on August 31, two smaller successive earthquakes measuring 2.0 and 2.5 on the Richter scale were recorded near Focșani.
