SEIU unions begin contract negotiations with University of Rochester

Two branches of the Service Employees International Union (SEIU) have entered renegotiations with the University of Rochester and Strong Memorial Hospital. The current collective bargaining agreement, which covers more than 2,000 employees, is set to expire on September 26.

The two branches involved are 1199 SEIU, representing staff at Strong Memorial Hospital and Golisano Children’s Hospital, and Local 200 United, representing University of Rochester employees. Key objectives for the union include securing livable wages and addressing current staffing shortages.

Negotiations have been extended to accommodate the complexity of the existing contract, which has been in place for over 52 years. Union leadership has initiated contract campaign events and social outreach to keep members informed throughout the process.
