Seiyu reports strong earnings driven by new store formats

Trial Holdings reported strong financial results for Seiyu for the fiscal year ending June 2026, with net sales reaching 460.97 billion yen and net income at 9.56 billion yen. The company has seen ten consecutive months of positive sales growth in existing stores, driven by a significant recovery in customer numbers.

A key driver of this growth is the new ‘Trial Seiyu’ format, which converts large hypermarkets into optimized stores. Three such locations have already opened in Tokyo and Kanagawa, resulting in a 42% increase in sales and a 38% increase in customers at those sites. Trial Holdings plans to convert 30 stores to this new format over the next three years.

Additionally, the company is renovating medium and small-sized supermarkets, with plans to remodel 60 stores over the next three years. Seiyu President Hitoshi Naragino attributed the success to the introduction of Trial’s private brand products and effective shelf layouts, noting that the staff’s ability to adapt to new strategies has been crucial.
