Seiyun General Hospital nurses resign en masse over unpaid wages

A group of 183 contract nurses at Seiyun General Hospital in the Hadramaut Governorate of eastern Yemen have submitted a collective resignation. The move follows a two-month ultimatum given to the hospital administration to address long-standing grievances and honor previous agreements made in May.

The protesting staff cited several primary issues, including the failure to pay salaries for the months of March, April, May, and June. They also criticized the hospital administration for implementing what they described as “meager and unjust” incentives, specifically noting that nurses were assigned a 30,000 riyal incentive while technical staff in other departments received higher amounts.

In addition to back pay and increased incentives, the nurses are demanding an exemption from the 15% labor earnings tax, seeking a return to the tax structure used prior to 2026. The staff stated that they hold the hospital management and local authorities responsible for any resulting decline in healthcare services due to the cessation of their duties.
