Sejm passes law updating PESEL data access for insurers

The Polish Sejm has passed an amendment to the law on population registration regarding the PESEL system. The new regulations aim to reduce administrative burdens for citizens by removing the requirement to manually inform insurance companies when an identity card is replaced.

Under the new rules, the list of entities authorized to access PESEL data will be expanded to include life insurance providers. This will allow insurers to automatically obtain updated identity card series, numbers, and expiration dates. According to the Chancellery of the Prime Minister, the measure is intended to streamline policy management, reduce errors, and assist in detecting fraud attempts.

The legislation now moves to the Senate and will subsequently require the President's signature. Once published in the Journal of Laws, the changes will take effect after 14 days.
