Sejm processes petition to unify retirement age at 62

The Polish Sejm's Committee on Petitions has processed a petition proposing to unify the retirement age for men and women at 62 years. The petition, submitted by Robert Ołdakowski in September 2025, has now been transferred to the Social Policy and Family Committee for further consideration.

The proposal suggests a gradual transition to the new age, potentially increasing or decreasing the threshold by six months each year. This would raise the retirement age for women from 60 to 62 and lower it for men from 65 to 62.

Beyond the age change, the petition includes provisions to maintain special rules for individuals performing heavy or hazardous work. It also proposes mechanisms to compensate for career breaks related to childcare or caring for dependents, such as through contribution bonuses or adjusted seniority calculations. This parliamentary step does not constitute a change in law; the current retirement ages of 60 for women and 65 for men remain in effect.
