Sejong Administrative Capital Special Act debate held at National Assembly
A parliamentary debate was held at the National Assembly Library on September 22 to discuss the necessity and legislative direction of the Special Act on the Administrative Capital. The event aimed to build political and public consensus for enacting the law within the year to solidify Sejong City's status as the administrative capital.
Organized by the Committee for National Measures to Enact the Special Act on the Administrative Capital in collaboration with several lawmakers and Sejong City, the forum included experts, academics, and civil society members. Proponents argued that the act is essential for national balanced development, addressing regional extinction, and overcoming the concentration of power in the Seoul metropolitan area.
Currently, five legislative bills related to the administrative capital are pending review by the Land, Infrastructure and Transport Committee in the 22nd National Assembly. Participants emphasized that establishing a clear legal foundation is critical to supporting the government's plan to relocate central administrative agencies to Sejong.
