Sejong City to develop Gobok Reservoir into national tourism hub

Sejong City Mayor Jo Sang-ho has announced plans to develop Gobok Reservoir into a major national tourism destination that integrates natural environments with experiential tourism. During a meeting with residents in Yeonseo-myeon, Mayor Jo emphasized that the reservoir, alongside the Smart National Industrial Complex, will serve as a core driver for the growth of the Yeonseo area.

The development strategy focuses on preserving the natural environment of the Gobok Nature Park while transforming green spaces into cultural tourism assets. Mayor Jo noted that the city is currently establishing detailed plans, stressing that development should not simply mean the removal of all regulations. To ensure systematic progress, the city intends to seek cooperative measures with the Korea Rural Community Corporation, which owns the reservoir's river and adjacent lands.

In addition to tourism, Mayor Jo addressed local infrastructure concerns, including traffic improvements at Seongje Intersection, dredging to prevent river flooding, and the potential creation of new park golf courses. He also reaffirmed his commitment to accelerating the establishment of the Smart National Industrial Complex to enhance Sejong's self-sufficiency and administrative status.
