Sejong City to host academic conference on Jeonseongji historical records
Sejong Special Self-Governing City will host an academic conference on October 30 at the Yeomin-sil in City Hall to examine the historical and academic value of Jeonseongji. Compiled in 1854, Jeonseongji is a local gazetteer documenting the history, geography, and prominent figures of Jeonui-hyeon, an administrative district covering the present-day Jeonui-myeon area.
The document contains vital information regarding administrative, social, and cultural aspects of the region, including official positions, family names, and household registers. The conference aims to systematically verify the historical significance of these records to support the city’s plan to designate Jeonseongji as a Sejong City-designated cultural heritage site by 2027.
Key presentations will cover topics such as the compilation of the records, the evolution of local place names, and the socio-economic and financial operations of the Jeonui region during the late Joseon Dynasty.
