Sejong Mayor seeks national funding for cancer center and AI projects
Sejong Mayor Cho Sang-ho has begun a series of meetings with National Assembly members to secure government funding for key regional projects in the 2027 budget. During his visit to the National Assembly on the 27th and 28th, Cho met with various officials, including the steering committee members of the Special Committee on Budget and Accounts, to advocate for the necessity of these initiatives.
Central to his proposal is the establishment of an advanced proton cancer treatment technology development and demonstration center in the central region. Cho noted that while heavy ion accelerator facilities exist in the Seoul metropolitan area and Busan, the central region lacks such advanced medical infrastructure. He emphasized that proton therapy offers high cost-efficiency and abundant clinical cases.
Additionally, the Mayor is pushing for the creation of an Artificial Intelligence (AI) government ecosystem to transform Sejong into a hub for AI-driven administrative innovation. Other key requests include the construction of the Sejong District Prosecutors' Office and support for the Sejong-Gongju wide-area BRT operations to expand regional transportation networks.
