Sejong University celebrates IT volunteer mission in Uzbekistan

Sejong University held a presentation and completion ceremony on September 4 to celebrate the achievements of its World Friends Korea (WFK) IT volunteer group. The group conducted a 17-day mission in Jizzakh, Uzbekistan, from August 1 to August 17.

Organized by the National Information Society Agency (NIA), the program aims to bridge the global digital divide by providing IT education and projects in countries with limited technological infrastructure. During the mission, the volunteer team provided customized IT training and Korean culture exchange activities to 317 participants, including 191 youths, 115 university students, 6 teachers, and 5 local residents.

The educational curriculum included basic coding principles and website creation using artificial intelligence for university students, while broader groups received instruction on practical IT knowledge. Cultural exchange activities featured K-pop, Hangeul, traditional games, crafts, and architecture.

At the ceremony, the ‘Nurbyeol’ team received the top award for their Korean craft program, and student Ahn Jae-geun was honored with the Best Volunteer award. University officials noted the importance of fostering global leadership through such international service and cultural exchange.
