Sejuvey launches free jarana dance workshops for youth and LGBTQ+ in Mérida
The Secretariat of Youth (Sejuvey) will run a free jarana dance workshop in Mérida, Yucatán, from 21 July to 10 December. Classes are scheduled on Tuesdays and Thursdays, 18:30‑20:00, at Sejuvey’s centre on calle 64 No. 460 in the city centre.
The programme targets young people aged 18‑29 and members of the LGBTI+ community, aiming to preserve the traditional Yucatán jarana while promoting inclusive cultural spaces. The previous edition attracted more than 30 participants, who reported skill development, new friendships, and a stronger sense of belonging. Registration is open via phone (999 106 6154) or the agency’s official social‑media channels.
Organisers present the initiative under the slogan “Tradition with pride, rhythm with freedom,” emphasizing heritage, community involvement, and respect for diversity.
