Sekiro: No Defeat anime film set for September 2026 release
The anime film adaptation of the FromSoftware video game ‘Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice’, titled ‘Sekiro: No Defeat’, is scheduled for a limited three-week theatrical release in Japan starting September 4, 2026. Following its Japanese run, the film will be available for international streaming via Crunchyroll.
Produced by studio Qzil. la and directed by Kenichi Kutsuna, the film utilizes hand-drawn 2D animation to depict the Sengoku period. The narrative focuses on the bond between the shinobi Wolf and his young master, Kuro, as they navigate a fragmented Japan and seek the ‘Resurrection Blade’ to combat a deadly disease known as Dragonrot.
The production features character designs by Takahiro Kishida and music by Shūta Hasunuma. The film is expected to emphasize high-intensity swordplay and the emotional struggle of its protagonists against the backdrop of political instability in the Ashina region.
