Sekiro: No Defeat anime film set for September 2026 theatrical release
The animated film ‘SEKIRO: NO DEFEAT’, based on the award-winning video game ‘SEKIRO: SHADOWS DIE TWICE’ by FromSoftware, is scheduled for a limited three-week theatrical release in Japan starting September 4, 2026.
Produced by KADOKAWA and Arch, and animated by Qzil.la, the film features full 2D hand-drawn animation. New promotional footage has been released showcasing the film’s background art, which was meticulously hand-painted by Yuji Kaneko of Studio Aozora. The art style emphasizes a heavy, ink-wash aesthetic to depict the Sengoku period setting, including Ashina Castle.
Additionally, new character details were revealed for the character ‘Ochinomiko’ (voiced by Risa Shimizu), a figure with the power to produce rice. The film follows the story of Wolf, a skilled shinobi, and his young master Kuro, who possesses the power of immortality through the Dragon Heritage.
