SEKIYA RESORT to open art-focused hotel in Beppu
SEKIYA RESORT has announced the opening of ROCK & STEAM by SEKIYA RESORT, an art hotel scheduled to debut in the Kannawa district of Beppu, Oita Prefecture, on December 18, 2026. Operating under the concept of “modern toji” (traditional hot spring cure), the facility is designed as a “museum you can stay in,” integrating art, saunas, and local hot spring culture.
The hotel will feature 21 guest rooms, each equipped with a private hot spring bath carved from natural rock. A highlight of the property is the sauna suite, which offers three distinct environments—“tea room,” “forest,” and “rock”—produced by Mikie Sasano. The “rock” sauna is notable for incorporating a foot bath supplied by Beppu’s local hot springs.
Artistic works by international and domestic artists will be displayed throughout the premises, including new pieces by sculptor Soo Sunny Park and photography by Naoki Ishikawa. Dining options will include the hearth-grilled restaurant “Namiji” and the teppanyaki restaurant “Tetsu.” Reservations are set to begin on October 16, 2026.
