Sekolah Rakyat program returns 43,000 children to school

Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya reported that over 43,000 children, including those previously out of school or living on the streets, have returned to education through the Sekolah Rakyat program as of August 2026.

Initiated under President Prabowo Subianto's administration, the program aims to provide high-quality, free education alongside essential services such as housing, food, healthcare, and moral guidance for underprivileged children. Teddy defended the program's quality, citing recent academic successes, such as seven students from SRMA 26 Makassar winning awards in national olympiads and science competitions in fields including Mathematics and Biology.

During a visit to the Integrated People's School 8 in Tangerang, Teddy and Social Minister Saifullah Yusuf observed student performances. Teddy emphasized that the initiative is designed to ensure all Indonesian children, regardless of their economic background, have the opportunity to pursue their dreams through accessible and dignified education.
