Selahattin Demirtaş meets Narin Güran's father, calls family sentences a legal disaster
Former HDP co‑chair Selahattin Demirtaş, who is detained in Edirne’s high‑security prison, met Narin Güran’s father Arif Güran there under a special permit from the Justice Ministry. Demirtaş said he examined the case file and concluded that only Nevzat Bahtiyar has been proven by concrete evidence as the murderer of the eight‑year‑old girl killed in Diyarbakır in 2024.
He described the aggravated life‑sentence convictions of the victim’s mother Yüksel Güran, brother Enes Güran and uncle Salim Güran as a “legal disaster”, blaming intense media pressure for influencing the court’s decision. Demirtaş urged the Justice Ministry to request an appellate review and appealed to the legal community and the Justice Ministry to seek a reversal of the sentences. The victim’s brother Baran Güran, after the meeting, said he left the prison feeling hopeful that there are people defending their truth.
