Selangor clarifies Monday is not a public holiday

Selangor Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari has clarified that Monday, August 24, 2026, remains a regular working day in the state. This statement follows the circulation of fake posters online claiming the state government had declared a public holiday to celebrate the success of the Selangor contingent at the SUKMA Selangor 2026 games.

Amirudin noted that any official announcement regarding a special public holiday, if applicable, will only be made during the SUKMA 2026 closing ceremony at 8:00 PM. The state government had previously indicated it would consider a special holiday as a gesture of appreciation if Selangor emerged as the overall champion, once the final medal tally is confirmed.

As of the latest reports, Selangor leads the medal standings with 97 gold, 72 silver, and 69 bronze medals, having already surpassed its initial target of 80 gold medals.
