Selangor considers exam postponements and school closures due to haze

The Selangor state government is monitoring deteriorating haze conditions and considering various follow-up measures. Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari stated that the state will review these measures during an executive council meeting this Friday, based on reports from relevant agencies and the State Health Department.

One potential consequence of the rising haze is the postponement of the Religious Primary School Assessment (PSRA), which is managed by the Selangor Islamic Religious Department (JAIS). Amirudin noted that if the Air Pollution Index (API) exceeds 200, the state may consider postponing the exams. The government also has parameters for school closures; if the API reaches 200, schools may be closed or outdoor activities halted, and if it reaches 300, a state of emergency may be requested.

As of recent reports, several areas in Selangor, including Johan Setia, Shah Alam, Petaling Jaya, Klang, Banting, and Kuala Selangor, have recorded unhealthy API levels. The state is also looking into providing face masks to students if the haze persists through October.
